Gaming has been a part of my life since 2001. Having played games from the era when PC specification were 8GB hard disk space, 64 MB RAM and Pentium III ( HP Pavilion desktop PC ) to now with 1TB hard disk space, 8GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 840M ( currently using Lenevo Z50 ). 16 years down the line, I can easily say I am veteran Gamer.
I have gone through few answers here, and will try to name games which are not mentioned here or it seems to. Here are my best 5 games -
1) Recoil (video game)
RECOIL takes place at an uncertain time in the semi-near future. A network corporation has taken over most of the computers on the planet, and has forced everyone into slavery, their ultimate goal being to make everything robotic, autonomous. A resistance forms, operating in underground buildings and travelling at night to avoid detection by the machines. The player is given various missions to take out different parts of the Network's forces and operations, using a stolen prototype tank known as the BFT (Battle Force Tank), which is transported from place to place by a stolen VTOL aircraft.

2) Colin McRae Rally 2.0
Colin McRae series started in 1998, the second version of the series was a critical and commercial success and is still acknowledged as a pioneer of realistic rally sports racing games. The series is named after the World Rally Championship driver Colin McRae, who provided technical advice during development.

3) Fifa 11 -
As every gamer will acknowledge the legendary series from EA Sports, but FIFA 11 is the best among FIFA series. The clear reason is the compatibility and smooth game function among all kind of PC's and laptop sold at that time. This can further strengthen by stating that even after launch of its successor, i.e. FIFA 12,13 and even FIFA 14, the game was still the most played LAN connected game in hostels. I can atleast say for India during 2013-2014, every Gaming competition in colleges had FIFA 11 as the most popular and most competitive game among all others.

4) Motocross Madness 2
In the end though, it's about fun, and MM2 provides this in piles and piles. The crash animations never (and I mean never) stop being anything less than hilarious, and the action is always as a pretty relentless pace. The eye-candy is constantly impressive, the physics are crazy enough to be fun but real enough to look right, and the multiplayer game is a blast, especially if you've got devious friends

5) Half-Life
Guinness World Records awarded Half-Life with the world record for Best-Selling First-Person Shooter of All Time (PC) in the Guinness World Records: Gamer's Edition 2008. Well, I guess this record is enough to say for a PC game which was launched in 1998.

Other noticeable games ( Not mentioned above as was already written by other writers )
Max Payne 1 & 2, Counter Strike 1.6 , Midtown Madness, Road Rash, IGI2, Hitman , Call of Duty, SOF, NFS - All series, Age of Empire, EA Sports Cricket 2010 - Just an Indian thing.
